Zelda-Style Character Shader Set Up in Unity

3D Artist Lez shared a series of demos, showcasing an impressive stylized shader and explaining how it was made.

3D Artist, Animator, and Game Developer known as Lez has recently shared a series of Twitter posts, showcasing an amazing stylized character shader, set up with the goal of recreating The Legend of Zelda BotW/TotK's cel shader's edge highlights via the depth buffer in Unity.

"What I did was to get the depth texture, offset the screen UV using the world to view direction the world normal," commented the author. "After that, I used the inverted dot product of view dir and light dir as a mask to only show the edge highlights when the view is against the sun."

We highly encourage you to visit Lez's Twitter page to learn more about the project. Also, don't forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
