Xbox's layoffs, part of the company's recently announced restructuring, will reportedly affect the workforce across Activision, Bethesda and ZeniMax, Blizzard, Xbox Game Studios, and more, with a total of 3,200 positions. The scope of the cuts has raised concerns about the future of projects currently in development across these studios.
However, major franchises are not going anywhere. As reported by Bloomberg, ZeniMax will undergo a significant overhaul but will refocus on its biggest franchises: Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier clarified that despite the scale of the reorganization, ZeniMax will not be stripped down to only Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, addressing rumors that had been circulating over the past few weeks.
As for individual studios, Schreier later shared that studios within Bethesda's organization, including id Software and ZeniMax Online Studios, will not be closed entirely, but will face cuts involving a "significant number of staff." ZeniMax Online Studios, the team behind The Elder Scrolls Online, could reportedly lose as much as half of its development team.
Of the 3,200 total layoffs announced yesterday, 1,600 people were let go immediately, with the remaining half to follow before the end of the fiscal year.
