The platform turns images, photos, sketches, and text descriptions into 3D models, while also providing tools for mesh optimization, texturing, model segmentation, rigging, and animation.
For game developers and artists, Tripo offers workflows designed for different stages of production. Its High Detail Model generates high-fidelity assets with up to 2 million polygons, while Smart Mesh produces clean quad-based geometry from 500 to 25,000 polygons, with topology optimized for real-time applications. This allows creators to use Tripo both for exploring ideas and developing assets that can move directly into production workflows.
The platform supports the broader 3D pipeline as well. Creators can generate PBR textures, separate models into editable components, automatically rig characters and creatures, and export assets in formats including GLB, FBX, OBJ, and USD. Integrations and plugins are available for tools and engines including Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, and Cocos.
Tripo's work also extends beyond the product itself into fundamental research in generative 3D and interactive world models. Through VAST AI Research, its research team explores areas including 3D vision, neural graphics, spatial reasoning, and the generation of persistent and interactive digital worlds. The team's research has been presented at major computer graphics and AI conferences, including SIGGRAPH, CVPR, NeurIPS, and ICCV.
Recent research includes projects such as TripoSR, a fast approach to image-to-3D generation; TripoSG, an open-source model for generating high-quality 3D meshes from images; and TripoSplat, which explores generative 3D Gaussian representations. The team is also investigating new approaches to 3D texturing, native mesh generation, high-fidelity shape generation, and video-to-animation.
By combining research in generative 3D with practical tools for asset creation and production, Tripo aims to shorten the path from an idea or reference image to a usable 3D asset. Its technology supports a wide range of applications, from game development, animation, and VFX to VR/AR/XR, industrial design, e-commerce, and 3D printing.
