The Beijing-based company released its new digital twin project, a fully recreated Shanghai city.
51 World showed a new digital twin, Shanghai. The twin is a complete virtual clone of the city with all 3,750 square kilometers of it.
For the new project, the 51 World team modeled over 20 landmark structures individually and worked with the data from satellites, drones, sensors to get an accurate representation of the actual city with buildings, roads, parks, and so on. The team plans to make it possible to update the digital twin in real-time.
To optimize the photorealistic real-time rendering, the team used Unreal Engine and applied the same approach as game developers — divided the simulation into two-square-kilometers segments that are loaded and unloaded depending on the camera view. This way, the foreground comes with all tiny details in high quality.
51 World offers digital solutions specialized in Digital Twin Technologies. Digital twins can be used in a variety of fields, including city planning, engineering, and design. Check the website for more information on the company's products.
