80 Level Digest: Getting Started with Game Development in Unreal Engine 5

We've brought some great videos that will help you start making your own games in no time.

If you want to become a game developer, you've probably already researched what engines you can use. And Epic Games' Unreal Engine 5 is undoubtedly one of the most popular but it also looks pretty difficult.

Today, we've collected several great tutorials that will help you understand the engine's mechanics and create your first game from scratch.

The first video on our list belongs to Unreal Sensei and explains the basics of making games in Unreal Engine 5 using its Blueprint Visual Scripting system. By the end of the tutorial, you will have a nice game where you need to shoot targets before the time runs out.

Zombie games are still extremely popular and might even inspire you to start your own awesome adventure. In this case, this 5-hour-long tutorial by Smart Poly will be handy as it guides you through creating a character, a map, weapons, and everything else you need for a playable shooter.

If a 3D shooter is not your thing, try this short video by Cobra Code, which will teach you how to make a simple 2D side-scroller. You will create tiles, set up character movement, and then adjust the camera to best fit your idea.

Next is a tutorial by Gorka Games, which takes you through the motions of creating a platformer shooter. You'll work on physics and set up the enemies' AIs so that your character has someone to fight.

Here is another type of platformer, more colorful and peaceful. UNF Games will show you how to work with a camera, tweak the character's movement, and polish animations. At the end of the video, you will have a cute stylized level.

Pixel Helmet offers another 2D experience, but this time it's set in a pixelated world. The tutorial covers essential steps, such as setting up the project, creating an environment, and implementing character movement. This can be a great start to your game development career.

Let's move on to this hour-long video by Uisco who will tell you about the basics of Unreal Engine, including navigation. You will create a fun simplistic game where you need to make your cube character avoid obstacles. You'll see how to manage materials, make collisions, and decorate your game.

Finally, if you are really interested in mastering Unreal Engine 5, freeCodeCamp has you covered. This course is a little different from the others as it focuses on every detail right from the very beginning: from installing the software to creating levels to working with the Blueprint system to coding using C++. It is long (over 11 hours), but the deep understanding of the program you get is worth it.
