The tool was created by Game Developer J.G.
In case you missed it, back in January, a Game Developer known only as J.G. has demonstrated a cool new tool for level generation. The tool was made for the author's upcoming roguelike game Galaia. The author commented that this Unreal Engine 4-powered tool only needs a few cubes to define the layout and then it can generate the entire level in a single click using pre-made modular pieces. The meshes are generated by a custom system written in C++.
Here are some of the modular pieces used by this generator:
"What I made is basically a 3D autotiler, comments J.G. "To put it very roughly, it samples the volumes and then places the correct tile based on which surrounding points are "empty" and which are "full"."
J.G. is a great Game Developer and 3D Artist who regularly posts some interesting behind-the-scenes stuff about the upcoming Galaia game. So, if you are interested in Unreal gamedev, we highly encourage you to visit J.G.'s Twitter to learn more.
