A Course On Environment Art From Gnomon

Are looking for a course on environment art? Here is a great introduction to game scenes from Gnomon.

Student work by Evan Cwiertny

“This course presents students with the techniques currently used in game production to create complex real-time environments,” states the description. “Course lecture topics cover building modular assets on a grid, sculpting tiled textures, and set dressing. Proficiencies highlighted in the class include scene composition and efficiency, modeling and sculpting, baking and transferring maps, creating textures and materials, and level assembly.”

You will learn skills through homework assignments and then develop a final portfolio piece for presentation and critique. The 10-week course is led by Nate Stephens and Raul Aparicio who are true masters of environment design. You will learn a number of tricks in Maya, Marmoset Toolbag, and ZBrush.
