If you haven't played Elden Ring or would like to go back to its large world and see how it's organized a little better, you should definitely watch the video above.
In The World Design of Elden Ring, Mark Brown from Game Maker's Toolkit talks about the design choices FromSoftware made in detail. He discusses how different areas and elements of the massive map were placed to lead the player but also give them the opportunity to explore and find secrets spread out all over the Lands Between.
Brown speaks about the enemies and how they are balanced to both bring some challenge into battles and avoid making the player stuck.
Apart from praising FromSoftware's design decisions, the host mentions aspects that don't seem to be working that well, like content repetition and restrictive end game.
