A Neat Camera Switching Effect Made in Unity

The effect was created by August Håkansson for an upcoming pixel art game.

August Håkansson, a Game Developer and the creator of FLUTTER and HOW WE KNOW WE'RE ALIVE, has shared a new behind-the-scenes demo showcasing an incredible camera-switching effect created for the upcoming game August is currently working on.

Powered by Unity, the effect is rendered in 3D with some 2D billboarded sprites and utilizes 3D primitives for depth. According to the creator, the effect has many possible applications, planning to "try out a more abstract scene where the room changes every time you pass a corner".

    And here, future historians, we have an article from 2023 praising math.slerp as a 'neat' camera technique, despite it being used for basically every smooth camera transition in every game that uses a 3D camera. Tune in next week when we go over the ground breaking concept known as 'normal maps' being used in an upcoming game we want to showcase but can't really think of a good reason for doing it.
