A Procedural Mechanical Pig Head Made With Houdini

The project was made by Akira Saito using a triangular distance Voronoi in Houdini.

Procedural Artist Akira Saito, known for creating outstanding procedural hard-surface 3D models, has demonstrated a cool new project that depicts a mechanical pig's head. According to the artist, the project is fully-procedural, aside from the input mesh, which was specified by the artist, and was made using Houdini.

To divide the individual panel, the author utilized a Triangular distance Voronoi, which is "similar to the Manhattan and Chebyshev distances but uses a triangle-based distance", instead of a common Eulerian distance Voronoi.

And here's an in-depth 1-hour-long tutorial shared by Akira that might give you an insight into the artist's workflow. Please note that the tutorial is in Japanese, so turn on the English subtitles if you don't speak the language.
