A Resident Evil-Style Hallway Made in Houdini & Unreal Engine

CG Artist Ian Smith has demonstrated a gloomy hallway scene, inspired by Resident Evil and Condemned.

CG Supervisor at NSC Creative Ian Smith has demonstrated a dark, gloomy, and atmospheric environment titled the Condemned Hallway. According to the artist, the project was inspired by Resident Evil 7 and Condemned, especially by the feeling these games introduce. The project was done over about 12 weeks, Ian added. The project's description states that the hallway was created in Houdini, 3ds Max, Marmoset Toolbag, Unreal Engine, and Substance 3D Painter. Some additional materials for the scene were made by Ian in Substance 3D Designer.

"I've come to find Houdini extremely useful for iterating quickly and building small tools for creating variations, such as different cobwebs, peeling wallpaper, broken plaster, and trash bags," commented Ian. "I also used Substance Designer to create a number of custom materials and decals. Substance Painter was used for props such as the chair, trash bags, and the peeling wooden panels."

And here are some behind-the-scenes images, shared by the author:
