Adult Swim Works on New Blade Runner Anime

Adult Swim has revealed it has teamed up with Alcon Television Group and Crunchyroll to create a new anime series based on the legendary Blade Runner universe.

“Blade Runner — Black Lotus” will span 13 episodes and be directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama. Shinichiro Watanabe of “Cowboy Bebop” and “Samurai Champloo” is said to be involved as a creative producer. A press release states that the project “will take place in 2032 and will include some familiar characters from the Blade Runner universe.”

“I first saw Blade Runner in 1982, at age 11. It has remained one of the defining films of my life,” Adult Swim SVP/Creative Director Jason DeMarco stated. “ To be able to explore more of this universe, with the incredible talent we have on board, is a dream come true.”

We’ve recently seen another short animated film titled Blade Runner Black Out 2022, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, and it was pretty awesome, so we can’t wait to see what’s next.
