Advanced Ledge Detection & Traversal System For Unity

It's designed to work with minimal setup, handle complex geometry, and support IK-driven animation workflows.

Back in 2025, we featured Salman Hoseini's ledge grab prototype, which has come a long way since then. It's now a finished product, including full IK-driven animation, support for complex geometry such as inclines, turns, and uneven surfaces, and a modular traversal system for actions like ledge-to-ledge jumps. It looks ideal for action-adventure and parkour titles, as well as any third-person game requiring advanced traversal.

We've asked the developer to share a few words about Ledge Detection and Navigation System:

"The original capsule-based prototype has evolved into a full ledge traversal framework. It detects complex geometry, including inward and outward corners, inclines, and uneven surfaces. It calculates hand and foot IK targets for both braced and free-hanging positions.

The system offers a modular design for adding new traversal methods like jumping down to a ledge, jumping backwards to a ledge behind, etc. and to accompany it is another modular reaction system that developers can apply their custom reaction logic to it, whether it being animation based reactions or physics, etc. Setup is layer-based, so level designers only need to assign a ledge layer to their geometry."

The system is compatible with Unity 6 and 2022 LTS and is render-pipeline independent, as it primarily consists of scripts and code architecture. It's also well-documented and includes a dedicated YouTube playlist with tutorials to help you get started:
