AION 2 Became Steam's Top Seller With Over 170K Players Before Full Launch

AION 2 has exceeded 171,000 concurrent Steam players and became the platform’s top seller during paid Advanced Access, days before its free-to-play launch.

NC’s new MMORPG AION 2 has made an exceptionally strong start on Steam, attracting more than 171,000 concurrent players before its full free-to-play release.

The game entered paid Advanced Access on September 30 for players who purchased one of its Founder’s Packs. This is not Steam Early Access in the conventional unfinished-development sense, but a five-day head start ahead of the free launch on October 5. The packs cost $24.99, $49.99, and $99.99 in the United States, with every tier granting access to the current period.

According to SteamDB, AION 2 reached an all-time peak of 171,530 simultaneous Steam players on its first day. Its subsequent 24-hour peak remained above 137,000 at the time of writing, demonstrating that the opening figure was not simply a brief login spike.

The result is especially notable because everyone currently playing needed a paid access entitlement. Concurrent players do not translate directly into sales since some accounts may use promotional or complimentary keys, and many additional buyers will not have been online at the peak, but the figure establishes that the game’s total paid audience is already substantial.

NC has not announced an official sales total or revenue figure. Steam nevertheless listed AION 2 as the number-one title on Steam’s global top-sellers chart for a time, which is ordered by revenue rather than unit sales. The game has therefore generated enough revenue from its Founder’s Packs to outperform every other product on the platform during its Advanced Access launch.

Player sentiment is positive overall, especially given how notorious MMOs as a genre are for things like server instability during their launch window. More than 4,300 Steam reviews have produced a “Mostly Positive” rating, with approximately 76% recommending the game. Positive responses frequently highlight the detailed character creator, large fantasy environments, action combat, and the return of unrestricted flight as a defining part of exploration.

Built with Unreal Engine 5, AION 2 presents a world reportedly 36 times larger than that of the original AION, with eight playable classes, PvE and PvP content, two opposing factions, and aerial combat.

The larger test arrives on October 5, when the Founder’s Pack requirement disappears, and AION 2 becomes free to play. Its paid launch has already established considerable demand; opening the servers to everyone could push its concurrent-player record substantially higher.
