Animation Tests Behind French Supermarket's Viral Christmas Ad

If you've been online this week, you've probably seen the 3D animated short about a wolf who changes his villainous ways to make friends. The Unloved is a Christmas ad from French supermarket chain Intermarché, and it has gone viral not only for its story, but for being created without the use of any generative AI, something many major companies, including Coca-Cola and McDonald's, failed to do.

We previously shared some behind-the-scenes materials from The Unloved, and now even more work from the artists is starting to surface. You can check out Benoit Bargeton's animation tests in the reel above.

In a recent post, he wrote:

"With heartfelt thoughts, I raise a toast to Illogic Studios, Romance, WIZZ, and Intermarché for the hope they gave us, and for showing that people still care about films crafted by human hands, hearts, and minds. Yes, it's a long 2:30-minute commercial in the TikTok era. But there is so much care and love in every shot, and in every part of the process, that people keep watching, and even watch it again. I needed this, and I have a feeling I wasn't alone."
