Assassin's Creed Shadows Fans Shouldn't Expect Any Major DLCs, Ubisoft Says
Claws of Awaji may remain Shadows' sole major expansion.
Just a week after Ubisoft boasted that Assassin's Creed Shadows and the rest of the AC catalog were "overperforming," their words are already proving inconsistent with their actions, with Shadows' Associate Game Director Simon Lemay-Comtois confirming the studio has no plans for any major, Claws of Awaji-sized DLCs for the series' latest entry.
In a recent interview with JorRaptor, Lemay-Comtois stated that, as of right now, "there is no expansion on the size of Awaji that is planned" for the second year of Shadows' post-launch support, while noting that "anything can happen in the future," and even though Ubisoft has no major expansions planned at the moment, that could change down the line depending on the circumstances.
Instead, the developer plans to prioritize "chunkier updates that shake things up a bit more" in Year 2 – updates that are smaller than Awaji but larger than the frequent, smaller drops Ubisoft was releasing throughout AC Shadows' Year 1.

While the news that there are no plans for a second expansion might not seem that significant at first – after all, Mirage only got its first full-size DLC two years after launch – it becomes much more interesting in the context of Ubisoft's previous statements, such as the claim that Shadows had the second-best launch in the franchise's history, behind only Valhalla (which, by the way, has three major DLCs).
It's especially striking when considered alongside a recent comment from the very same Simon Lemay-Comtois that microtransactions from Shadows fund the game's post-launch content, implying that even this revenue stream may be running dry.
