Avengers VFX: Thanos Breakdown

Find out the insights into the production of one of the most complicated characters in Marvel Universe.

Weta Digital shared a breakdown of Thanos, one of the antagonists in Avengers movies. Thanos happened to be one of the most complicated CG-characters in the franchise to create. In the video, the team has shared the techniques used for its development process and provided some WIP footage alongside the movie shots.

For instance, the first step of the production included capturing the facial motion of Josh Brolin’s face with a technique called Actorpuppet. With this technique, the team built two face puppets and added all the little details of Josh’s performance and calibrated both puppets to transfer the mimics seamlessly.

Another cool tool that was first introduced in the Endgame movie is Deep Shades. With this tool, Thanos’s emotional expression was more complex and detailed.
