Backrooms Break: A UE5-Powered Game With Destructible Environments

The developer utilized the engine's Nanite, Lumen, RVT, and Chaos Physics to create the destruction system.

Solo Game Developer Jan Jileček has recently shared a new WiP demo for Backrooms Break, an upcoming Unreal Engine 5-powered psychological horror, set in the familiar-looking and fully-destructible backrooms.

Equipping you with only a hammer and a revolver, the game will task you to navigate through the never-ending maze of liminal rooms, fending off the terrifying creatures that inhabit it. Unlike many similar games, however, Backrooms Break enables the player to affect the environment by destroying walls and lighting sources, letting one change the maze's outline to their liking in order to accomplish the goal. According to the developer, the destruction system was created using UE5's Nanite, Lumen, RVT, and Chaos Physics.

And here are some of the earlier demos shared by Jan:

Backrooms Break is set to be released on October 17, 2023. Learn more and wishlist the game here. Also, don't forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on Instagram and Twitter, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
