Baldur's Gate 3 sales have been a mystery since the game was released in August. Considering its 800,000+ concurrent players on Steam back at launch and consistent 100,000 users still enjoying it every day, it's safe to say there are millions of copies sold. But how many exactly?

Apparently, there are over 10 million players, according to Larian's director of publishing Michael Douse. On X/Twitter, he addressed "threats and toxicity" that its developers and community teams have been receiving concerning the game's mods (and, I assume, the fact they break after Larian's frequent patches.) Douse says that the studio has been working on the recently announced cross-platform mod support since BG3's launch and will be talking in depth about it soon.

"This is a game that went from ~2 mil players to way over 10 in a very short space of time, so it’s natural the conversation becomes muddier and complex. But in order to maintain the same level of dialogue, we need people to understand that these conversations take time."

So here you have it – the unsurprising but delightful truth. Hopefully, we'll finally get an official statement one of these days, but for now, Douse asks players to keep conversations pleasant as community teams work hard to filter "a giant web of noise" and bring us important news. "If you truly want to know things about the game, please don’t chip away at the people who connect us all," added Douse.

Meanwhile, Larian is focused on patching the game and working on mod support. Douse also reiterated that sticking close would be better for both developers and players, but if toxic people continue to plague the community, Larian will have to cut draw some distance, and "it’ll really suck for everyone."

Larian Studios cares about its audience, and it shows, especially in how often it brings fan-requested changes to the game, so losing this touch would be a shame. Hopefully, this message will make some people come to their senses and we'll enjoy a nice, toxicity-free atmosphere.
