Baldur's Gate 3 Third-Person Mod Makes It Feel Like a Different Game
It's an enhanced version of the mod Native Camera Tweaks by Ersh.
Baldur's Gate 3 was released in 2023, and shortly after, modders started adding camera options, including a third-person view. Now, in July 2026, the Nexus Mods user Relysia created the True Third-Person Camera mod.
Relysia explained that it's an enhanced version of the mod Native Camera Tweaks by the modder Ersh. "It retains all features of the original mod while adding a dedicated toggle to switch to a modern, over-the-shoulder third-person camera view where the camera stays closely attached to your character."
The camera remains at a steady distance to maintain the close-up perspective, but during certain gameplay actions, such as spell targeting, jumping, or inspecting, the camera switches back to the normal view for a moment before automatically returning to the over-the-shoulder mode.
Relysia shared on YouTube a comparison between the base game camera, the Native Camera Tweaks mod, and Third Person Camera, showing how the latter looks smoother and gives players more freedom to explore the game's world. Check it out:
The modder also mentioned that the mod requires Native Mod Loader, Baldur's Gate 3 Script Extender (BG3SE), and Mod Configuration Menu (MCM). It works best with a controller, but it can work on a keyboard and mouse using the WASD Character Movement mod.
So far, True Third-Person Camera still has some bugs, but Relysia is working on updates to fix them. You can check the mod here.
