Blender 3.0 Has Been Released

After almost 2 years of waiting, Blender 3.0 is finally here.

Blender 3.0 has finally been released by the Blender Foundation. First announced in early 2020, the third generation of the beloved software was promised to bring countless new features, including a new asset manager, revamped animation toolset, a USD importer, Geometry Nodes Fields, and many others. And now, almost 2 years and several postponements later, Blender 3.0 is here, ending the software's second cycle and opening a door for new possibilities.

Here are some of the new features of Blender 3.0:

  • Cycles GPU kernels have been rewritten for better performance, rendering between 2x and 8x faster in real-world scenes.
  • Viewport has been made more responsive by updating scheduling and display algorithms.
  • OpenImageDenoise was upgraded to version 1.4, with improved detail preservation. A new pre-filter option was added to control the denoising of auxiliary albedo and normal passes.
  • New option to reduce shadow artifacts.
  • Subsurface scattering now supports anisotropy and index of refraction for Random Walk.
  • The procedural system introduced in 2.92 has been extended with a re-imagined method for designing node groups, a new attribute system, around 100 new nodes for interaction with curves, text data, instances, and more.
  • Mesh attributes are no longer a Cycles exclusive, Eevee now fully supports attributes including those generated by Geometry Nodes.
  • An updated theme, improvements, and a bunch of new options to further customize the already flexible layout system.
  • And much, much more!
