3D Artist and YouTuber passivestar shared a closer look at the soon-to-be-released Blender 4.0.
passivestar, a well-known 3D Artist, Game Developer, and YouTuber, has recently conducted a series of experiments with Blender 4.0, an upcoming update for Blender currently in Beta, testing out its ability to create custom tools using Geometry Nodes.
In case you missed it, earlier this month, the Blender Foundation's Jacques Lucke announced that Blender 4.0 will give users the ability to set up custom operators using the software's Geometry Nodes toolset, facilitating the creation of node-based tools. Moreover, it is also possible for the user to customize the setup and choose which object types and modes the tool should be available in.
Experimenting with the new toolset, the artist has set up several simple yet extremely impressive tools, including the one that can make pipes from edges. According to passivestar, it is not drastically easier to create tools in Blender for non-programmers.
Another tool demonstrated by the author is Bounding Box, which the author described as "the most useful modeling tool of all".
The series continued with a great "Connect" node tool that can create an edge between any pair of selected faces or edges.
