Sony put high expectations on its PlayStation VR2 aiming to produce 2 million units by March 2023. However, a new report from Bloomberg states that the headset got off to a slow start and is likely to sell about 270,000 units between February 22 and the end of March.
In January, Bloomberg claimed Sony had to cut its forecast for shipments after an unexpectedly low number of pre-orders, but the company later dissuaded the statement and said that the PS VR2 could be even more successful than its predecessor.
Now, Francisco Jeronimo from the research firm IDC suspects a price cut on the headsets will be needed "to avoid a complete disaster of their new product". The PS VR2 costs $549 and requires PlayStation 5, which has a similar price – a sizable amount of money considering rising costs of living, interest rates, and raging layoffs. Sony is yet to comment on the statement.
