Blue Dot: A Short Movie Created With MetaHuman Animator

The movie was created by the 3Lateral team to showcase the capabilities of the newly-released toolset.

In case you missed it, yesterday, Epic Games officially shipped MetaHuman Animator, a brand-new toolset that allows its users to capture an actor's performance using an iPhone or a stereo head-mounted camera system and then apply this captured data to any MetaHuman character, resulting in high-quality animations.

Alongside the announcement, the team has also released Blue Dot, a short movie that demonstrates a photorealistic 3D MetaHuman of actor Radivoje Bukvić reciting a monologue based on a poem by Mika Antic and expressing the full spectrum of emotions, showcasing the capabilities of the newly-launched toolset.

Created by Epic Games' 3Lateral team, in collaboration with local Serbian artists, the film was made to demonstrate "the level of fidelity that artists and filmmakers can expect when using MetaHuman Animator with a stereo head-mounted camera system and traditional filmmaking techniques". According to the team, the performance was captured using a head mounted camera on a motion-capture stage at Take One studio and then applied as a high-fidelity facial animation onto the MetaHuman.
