Are we surprised?
Gearbox
After much anticipation, Borderlands 4 has finally been released, yay! But its launch was probably not what Gearbox and 2K expected. The game started with Mostly Negative reviews on Steam, according to PC Gamer, although at the moment, they are at Mixed. Success?
It looks like players don't agree with Gearbox's CEO Randy Pitchford about how it's worth $200. Well, not in performance, at least: most negative comments mention stuttering, crashes, and low FPS.
Which shouldn't surprise anyone: reports of optimization issues appeared before the game's launch, after all.
Interestingly, some critics call Borderlands 4 this year's best shooter, while IGN says it's "a fairly buggy ride in general," although it praises the gameplay. PC Gamer thinks it's a "big, bold world of stutters and disappointing frame rates," even on an RTX 5090 rig. So take your pick, who do you trust more?
