Build & Decorate a Japanese Restaurant in This Cozy Simulation Game

Midori no Kaori lets you show off creativity during a relaxing experience.

TheLaba

If you like the unique style of Japanese buildings and restaurants and enjoy the tranquility and peacefulness they deliver, we have an upcoming indie game for you to try out. In this game, you’ll design and build a traditional Japanese restaurant and run it for business.

This game is titled Midori no Kaori, and it reads “Green Scent” by Google Translate — the combination of these two words that might already bring you tranquility and calmness. Despite the fact that you run a restaurant and serve the customers, the gameplay is nothing related to being stressful or chaotic like in Overcooked. “Just unleash your creativity and enjoy a unique experience.”

To make the restaurant attractive and present your own aesthetic and tastes, you’ll decide on the architectural structure and pick up various decorations of different themes, like bonsais, bamboo screens, wooden cabinets, corner tables, and walls we see in the trailer. You can even create a small pond indoors and place a lovely wooden bridge over it:

There are many foods, typically Japanese food like sushi, ramen, and sashimi, to serve your customers, who appear to be frogs, who are not making any croaking noises but wearing a kimono or a kasa hat and sitting there quietly.

The indie developer TheLaba has offered more footage from the game, showcasing the various plants available, shelves where you can place smaller things, new facilities like a fridge and coffee machine, and an interactive character, which is a frog playing drum:

If the game sounds interesting to you, feel free to try out the demo on Steam. Midori no Kaori will come out in around 10 days to Early Access. Don’t forget to add it to your wishlist to be notified when it’s launched.
