Capcom Finally Announces Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake

The long-requested remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica is finally real, bringing Claire Redfield's iconic Dreamcast-era adventure into Capcom's modern remake lineup.

After years of fan requests, rumors, speculation, and community campaigns, Capcom opened up this year's Summer Game Fest showcase by officially revealing a remake of one of the most beloved entries in the Resident Evil franchise: Resident Evil Code: Veronica, slated for 2027.

The announcement marks a major milestone for survival horror fans who have long argued that Code: Veronica was the most deserving candidate for Capcom's modern remake treatment. Originally released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, the game has often been viewed as the true narrative successor to Resident Evil 2, continuing Claire Redfield's search for her brother Chris while introducing pivotal story developments involving Albert Wesker and the Ashford family.

For years, many fans were surprised when Capcom moved directly from the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes to Resident Evil 4, leaving Code: Veronica untouched despite its importance to the franchise timeline. That omission became one of the most common discussion topics within the Resident Evil community, with fan polls, social media campaigns, and even fan-made remake projects helping keep interest alive.

Capcom confirmed that the remake is targeting a 2027 release window, making it the next major remake project in the franchise following the release of Resident Evil Requiem. The announcement arrives after years of speculation and follows a steady stream of rumors throughout 2026 that suggested Code: Veronica was next in line for the company's remake treatment.

The original Code: Veronica followed Claire Redfield after the events of Resident Evil 2 as she searched for her missing brother. Captured by Umbrella, she is imprisoned on Rockfort Island before becoming caught in another outbreak that eventually leads players to a frozen Antarctic facility.

Many fans have long considered the events of this game essential connective tissue between the earlier Resident Evil games and later entries such as Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake will come off the heels of 2026's Resident Evil: Requiem (aka RE9), which was the fastest-selling game in franchise history.
