CDPR implied that players won't need to wait until next summer for the PS5 and Xbox Series X The Witcher 3 upgrades saying that the next-gen update isn’t in "development hell".
Last week, CD Projekt RED announced it was delaying the next-gen update to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt until "further notice" bringing the development that it previously outsourced in-house. On Friday, the studio shared more details on the update.
CDPR still didn't provide a release window, although it assured that the update isn’t in "development hell" and implied that players won't need to wait until next summer for the PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrades.
During the company’s investor teleconference, senior vice president of business development at CD Projekt RED, Michał Nowakowski, said that he noticed a number of articles on the internet with headlines that the game was postponed indefinitely or that it would not be released until June 2023. He stated that this was "completely not the case".
"Everything we’re saying is – we have taken the development of the game in-house. The game is going to be finished in-house. We’re evaluating our time, that requires a bit of investigation. That’s all we’re saying," Nowakowski stressed. "Nobody’s saying the game is delayed [with] some monumental time gap ahead of us. That’s as much as I can say about Witcher next-gen, but I really want to emphasize that fact."
Initially, the re-release of The Witcher 3 was handled by Saber Interactive, although CDPR broke off cooperation with the studio. Saber previously released a port of the action RPG for the Nintendo Switch. Currently, the internal CD Projekt RED team is responsible for the development of the updated The Witcher 3.
