Check Out a Complex Transformer Rig Set Up in Blender

Built by Ki Yama, the rig lets a mech model transform into a car.

Ki Yama, a CG Designer specializing in mech-themed modeling, rigging, and animation projects, has recently expanded their arsenal of awe-inspiring digital machines with a brand-new 3D rig that is sure to win over Transformer fans.

In development since October 2023, the latest rig showcased by Ki enables its creator to convert a mechanical warrior into a fully-fledged Transformer, capable of shifting between two forms – a battle-ready tool of destruction and a sleek vehicle resembling a tricked-out Lamborghini. Impressively complex and detailed, the new rig was set up in Blender, a free and open-source 3D software for modeling, texturing, rendering, animation, and VFX.
