Check out a Movie Created & Rendered Entirely in Blender

The award-winning animated movie Flow is coming to global theaters later this year.

Flow (Latvian: Straume) is a movie created entirely in Blender and rendered in EEVEE. It tells a warm-hearted and encouraging story about a cat whose home is flooded and who, therefore, has to embark on a journey to find a new residence on a boat. Along the journey, the cat teams up with other animal companions, including a labrador, lemur, capybara, and giant bird, and together they overcome challenges with courage and wisdom.

The movie doesn't have any dialogue — it relies on expressive graphics and a stunning environment to tell the story. The stylish animation is showcased in the first trailer above, which is filled with touching details — beautiful scenery like mountains and lakes, sparkling water under the setting sun, realistic reflections of cats in the water, and the surprised or hopeful eyes of the animals.

This movie appears to have a video game feeling for some and recalls the popular cat adventure game Stray. It received a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was selected as the Latvian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards, i.e., the 2025 Oscars. Meanwhile, it has won the Jury Award, the Audience Award, and the Gan Foundation Award for Distribution in the Feature Film category at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
