This time, the creator has managed to set up a neat and glitchy datamosh effect that runs in real-time and can make a game borderline unplayable, yet at the same time look mighty impressive. According to the developer, the system is "moving the previous frame based on the motion vector that Unreal already renders and then blending it with the new frame" to work in real-time.
For reference, James used a downloadable datamosh shader by Petya that simulates video compression artifacts in Unreal Engine 5.

Back in April, Technical Artist and the author of the weather plug-in Sky Creator Dmitry Karpukhin also experimented with Unreal-powered datamoshing, showcasing a trippy datamosh post-processing shader that distorts the character and their surroundings by recycling the previous frame with screen space motion vectors.
