Check Out These Fun Animated Cardboard Vases Made with Blender

Cardboard pottery by Jacques Monneraud & DOT4.

Pottery has never been as fun as in this cute stop-motion-like animation of cardboard vases created by Jacques Monneraud and DOT4 in Blender. From pitchers to carafes, these containers transform from one to another with ease thanks to Geometry Nodes.

"Inspired by Jacques's work, we set out to reimagine his beautiful sculptures in a different medium. What began as a study of material and shape became an exploration of transformation," the DOT4 creative design studio said.

Monneraud's work is unique: if you think he creates these vases with actual cardboard, you're wrong. He is a potter and works on these with ceramics. His skill is so great that it's impossible to see anything other than cardboard in the photos on his Instagram, but yes, these are natural materials.

"Among all the things that go through my mind, there was, within the 'what if…' category, the idea that I could recreate cardboard with ceramics. Many aspects interested me in this approach.

"First, its paradoxical nature: unalterable cardboard. I liked this idea. I’ve always been very sensitive to things that time can damage. Second, its apparent simplicity: three pieces of cardboard, two chunks of scotch tape, a pitcher. As opposed to the technical challenge: a great precision, a mix of three different stonewares, hundreds of tests to find a glaze that could imitate scotch tape, a making process with no room for error. But also, the wealth of possibilities this collection offers."

Now, you can enjoy his work in 3D space – a field strangely less surprising than where it first started.
