Check Out This WIP 3D Character with Realistic Wrinkles

VFX and CG Artist Attila Kovacs showcased this highly realistic portrait.

VFX and CG Artist Attila Kovacs presented this WIP artwork, showing a highly realistic animated portrait of an elderly man.

The artist skillfully visualized complex skin texture, depicting realistic wrinkles, pores, and other subtle details. The character has distinct emotions, and his eyes look lively, which creates a vibrant image.

As for the technical details, the artist leveraged an array of tools, including ZBrush for sculpting, Maya for rigging, Substance 3D Painter for texturing, and Houdini for grooming. The rendering was completed using Redshift. For mocap, the artist utilized Live Link Face, a tool on the App Store for enhanced facial animation in Unreal Engine. The creator explained that to successfully export a MetaHuman to Maya with the Blend Shapes, he imported the DNA file into Maya, transferred the skin Blend Shape in his custom model, and iteratively refined the skin weights through painting.

Attila Kovacs showcased many other fantastic works. For example, for this scene, the creator employed ZBrush for modeling, Houdini for rigging, procedural details textures, vellum, and Redshift for rendering:
