Circana: Video Game Subscription Growth in the US Has Stalled

But sales are going strong.

Mat Piscatella, Executive Director & Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana, revealed that the growth of video game subscription spending in the US stalled in April: it was only 2% higher than in the same period last year. "Finding new subscribers beyond the console ownership base has proven very difficult thus far," he said.

At the same time, Piscatella noted that "the big new premium releases in 2023 have done exceptionally well in good ol' fashioned sales," especially when it comes to digital copies. As expected, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been selling well physically, too.
