Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Is In Pre-Production, CDPR Said

CD PROJEKT RED announced that the long-awaited sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 has entered the pre-production stage.

According to a recent announcement, the team that worked on the new game set in the dystopian sci-fi universe completed its conceptual phase several weeks ago. Thus, the project proceeded to the next step of development.

The new installment, previously codenamed Project Orion and now officially called Cyberpunk 2, was revealed in October 2022 and is being developed with Unreal Engine 5 by a North American division that comprises studios in Boston and Vancouver. Jarosław Rudzki, Expert Core Tech Engineer at CDPR, shared how the studio has significantly contributed to the development of Unreal Engine. As for the sequel's development process, CDPR announced that the project would enter its Research & Development phase in 2024.

While official details on the sequel remain scarce, a few intriguing hints have surfaced. Recently, Mike Pondsmith, the original creator of the Cyberpunk universe, shared his thoughts on one of the locations and said that it feels like Chicago Gone Wrong. According to CDPR's recent job listing, the game will have "the most realistic and reactive crowd system in any game to date."

Also, CDPR shared that Cyberpunk 2077's large-scale expansion, Phantom Liberty, launched in September 2023, has sold over 10 million copies, which is especially significant in anticipating Cyberpunk 2077's launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5.
