CDPR's newly-formed North American division will be responsible for the game.
During its recent Q1 2023 earnings conference call, CD Projekt Red stated that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Project Orion, will enter its Research & Development phase in 2024.
First unveiled during CDPR's 2022 long-term strategy update, Project Orion is set to be a new installment in the studio's futuristic series that promises to "take the Cyberpunk franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of this dark future universe".
Earlier, it was revealed that CD Projekt RED North America, a newly-formed Boston-based division comprising the existing Vancouver team and the core developers of Cyberpunk 2077, will be responsible for the game, with the team reportedly consisting of 350 to 500 people.
According to the studio's management, the work on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 will begin at the start of 2024. The studio has already incurred expenses associated with Project Orion, and these costs are expected to rise as the game progresses into its initial production phase.
"We believe that studios will start operation at the beginning of 2024, however we already have some expenses related to Project Orion and Project Hader," stated CDPR. "Both are included in the green part, but once the studio is set up and starts operating in 2024, the green bar should increase."
