Darkwood Developers Are Going on Indefinite Hiatus
The team's work environment was apparently destructive to their personal lives.
Darkwood developer Acid Wizard Studio has announced it is going on an indefinite hiatus soon. The team is going to roll out the 1.4 update for their top-down survival horror and then take a break "for the foreseeable future". They might return in 5-10 years when they figure it all out, but for now, the pressure seems to be too hard to bear.
"We haven't been able to create a work environment that would not be destructive to our personal lives. Our families are our top priority and they should not be affected negatively by our work," Acid Wizard Studio said on Twitter. "So ultimately we decided that it would be best if we part ways, with a possibility of returning in 5-10 years when we get our shit together."
It doesn't mean Darkwood and the studio's latest Soccer Kids game have to become a distant memory. The developers are looking for someone who can create a sequel for Darkwood and keep working on the soccer game, so if you are a talented dev, send them a message.
It's a pity such a unique game as Darkwood is at risk of being dropped. If you aren't familiar with it, this is a game that "provides a new perspective on survival horror". You scavenge and explore the world when the sun is out and barricade your base and pray at night.
It would not be as scary as it is if not for the audio, which makes your skin crawl and your mind imagine the worst outcome possible. The story also makes you think, so if you haven't played Darkwood, I definitely recommend it, even if you're not a fan of scaring yourself (just like me).
