In a social media statement, Deck Nine confirmed its decision to downsize its workforce by a fifth. The company stated, "Deck Nine, like many others in the gaming industry, has been hit by the declining market conditions. Today, we made the tough decision to let go 20% of our staff."
The studio went on to praise the affected employees, saying, "These individuals are exceptional, skilled, and brilliant developers who have had a significant impact during their tenure at Deck Nine Games. This decision was not taken lightly. We strongly urge other companies to employ these remarkable individuals if possible."
This recent round of layoffs is the second instance of job cuts at the studio within a year. In May last year, the company confirmed it had to let go of 30 employees without specifying a reason.
