Diablo's General Manager Thinks TV Show Adaptation Is a Nice Idea

The game has "relatable themes."

With the Fallout show attracting more fans to the universe, many companies are thinking of adapting their own IPs. Diablo is an old soldier in the industry but it still has no TV series. Has Blizzard not thought of it before?

Diablo's general manager Rod Fergusson believes it would be nice to release a show, especially since the game has so many "relatable themes."

"Yeah, I definitely think it could work," he told Windows Central. "That's one of the things I really liked about Diablo as an IP, is that it's got very relatable themes because it's The High Heavens versus The Burning Hells, and that idea of Good versus Evil. I think that's something that could translate very well to something like that. You know, I wish I had something I could talk to you about today. But in terms of just the general idea, do I think it could work? I definitely do."

Fergusson confessed that the Edgerunners anime got him back into Cyberpunk 2077, so its own series would definitely benefit Diablo.

It's surprising the franchise hasn't seen a TV adaptation until now. In 2018, negotiations about the Diablo animated show co-produced by Activision Blizzard and Netflix were underway, with Andrew Cosby (Hellboy, 2 Guns, Tattoo Man) involved, but they fizzled out soon after.

If we do get a Diablo series, it will join the growing list of adaptations, including Minecraft, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Zero Dawn, Death Stranding, BioShock, Devil May Cry, NieR Automata, PAYDAY, Jak and Daxter, and more.
