Disney Delisted New Batch of Its Games from Steam
Could it be related to the ongoing layoffs?
Disney
Disney has delisted 15 more games from Steam, following the 14 in January. The games are connected to the company in one way or another and include Star Wars: Dark Forces, Outlaws + A Handful of Missions, and Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier.
The reason behind the "retirement" is not clear, although it might have something to do with licensing and time. PC Gamer, however, noted that Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier is not as old as other entries: it was released in 2018 and got an update in June.
The outlet assumes that Disney's $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games might mean that the company's games will be Epic Games Store exclusives, although this is, of course, just speculation at this point.
Another connection could potentially be the layoffs Disney introduced at Marvel, its subsidiary, which affected 8% of staff, including the Academy Award-winning visual development team.
