Exploit Environmental Hazards Against Enemies in This Upcoming FPS

DEFICIT is an immersive shooter being developed by ITEM42.

Indie development studio ITEM42, formed by two brothers, has shown off footage from their WIP first-person shooter DEFICIT, allowing players to shoot at the pipelines to create environmental hazards to harm their enemies.

With this mechanic in mind, you can set up traps — "spill oil with a can, set it alight with an electric spark or bullet or heated pipe - watch the fire spread," said the developer.

Powered by Unreal Engine, DEFICIT is a single-player FPS that emphasizes chaotic close-quarters combat, creatively lethal tools, and environmental havoc. Its core gameplay has reminded some of the beloved title, Condemned, which is indeed an inspiration as confirmed by the developers.

As a corporate espionage freelancer, you are on an assignment to steal a reality-shifting device named Interpolator, escape with it from Hadrian’s Wall, and cross the threshold into the strangest frontiers of reality. "Face a medley of adversaries: haphazard Oversight Officers, ruthlessly precise Servitor mechanoids and frangible UAVs," the game description reads.

Besides taking advantage of environmental hazards, you are encouraged to use any items as a weapon for some brutal yet satisfying melee combats, like hammers, screwdrivers, paint cans, bricks, batons, pistols, and SMGs, besides bare hands. See the hefty punches and chonking thwacks:

Let's dive into the game's atmosphere, levels, gameplay, and a variety of tools to be utilized, as well as combat, through the recently shared clips on social media:

DEFICIT has not yet received a release window; if you enjoyed its concept and gameplay, don't hesitate to add it to your Steam wishlist.
