Andrew Rodriguez showcased a neat game prototype imagining cave exploration.
3D Generalist Andrew "Permanent Sunset" Rodriguez, known for his expertise in digital environments and foliage, has recently turned his focus from Earth's surface and to its subterranean wonders, unveiling an impressive game prototype that imagines the spelunking experience.
With this project, Andrew wanted to explore the experience of caving alone and the beauty of the underground natural formations, drawing inspiration from the Ape Caves in Washington to shape the first section of his digital cave. Most of the assets and materials were procedurally generated using Gaea, supported by Nanite displacement and Unreal Engine 5.5's new MegaLights feature.
To complete the scene, Andrew used Cinema 4D to simulate and create additional elements such as stalactites, stalagmites, props, and volumetrics, while Marvelous Designer was employed for cloth simulations. Motion capture was performed with a Leap Motion Controller, and a VCam camera was used via LiveLink to record the sequence. Finally, After Effects was used for post-production, grading, and editing.
Going forward, the artist plans to share a detailed breakdown of the projects, so we highly recommend following Andrew on YouTube and ArtStation so as not to miss its release.
