Fan-Made Portal Prelude RTX Remaster Released

"100% less creepy voice acting, 100% less crouch-jump trickshots, and 50% less frustration guaranteed."

A team of developers together with NVIDIA released Portal: Prelude RTX – a remaster of the 2008 fan-made prequel mod for Portal featuring DLSS 3 and RTX IO.

"Portal: Prelude is an unofficial Portal prequel, set before the time of GLaDOS, featuring a new extremely challenging 8-10 hour campaign composed of 19 new test chambers, new advanced gameplay mechanics, a fully voiced story with NPCs, and a whole lot more."

Prelude is a popular mod that has gathered countless fans in 15 years and will probably do so again, now with better lighting thanks to path tracing. Its website promises "100% less creepy voice acting, 100% less crouch-jump trickshots, and 50% less frustration guaranteed."

There are also 200 new materials and textures, 100 new models, remade assets, more advanced geometry, new voice acting, and gameplay improvements.

The idea stays the same: you will encounter 19 challenging new test chambers, now with more impressive visuals.

"Step into the boots of Abby, the newest testing associate in Aperture Science, as you solve nineteen mind-bending chambers putting your Portal skills to the ultimate test. Make use of momentum, perform narrow escapes through deadly particle fields, and learn to work with manipulated gravity while heartless but dedicated observers watch and berate your every move."

Last year, NVIDIA released Portal RTX, the original game upgraded with RTX Remix, the company's modding platform that allows developers to improve visuals in games by enabling ray tracing and DLSS. The same technology was used in Prelude, and NVIDIA talked about it in its blog.

Portal: Prelude RTX is available on PC for free if you have a copy of the game.
