Fan-Made UE5 Remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Has Been Discontinued

The decision to shut down the project came after the announcement of the official Switch 2 remake.

CryZENx, the developer of the fan remake of the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, has discontinued work on the project after Nintendo announced an official Switch 2 remake.

The developer announced that the project " is officially stopped" in a Patreon post (spotted by IGN). CryZENx has been working on the project for almost a decade, originally starting with Unreal Engine 4 and later switching to Unreal Engine 5.2, utilizing Lumen tech for lighting. The project featured some iconic locations from the game. Over the development period, the fan remake has received several playable demos, which you can check out here.

Nintendo has confirmed that the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, originally released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998, will launch for Switch 2 in 2026, with additional details, including gameplay footage and a release date, to appear in the coming months.
