Fast Customizable Viewport Cel Shading Tool For Maya

Martin Chang's custom tool is almost ready for its public release.

Back in November, Martin Chang, whose amazing animations we've featured several times, shared he's working on a custom Maya shader with dynamic shadows and lighting, demonstrating it on several characters from Byte Breakers, a new battle royale game he's working on as the animation director.

The artist has now provided an update on this project, revealing that the shader automatically detects existing materials and is highly customizable, with the option to set different parameters for different parts. This tool looks fast and really promising, and it seems we can expect its release very soon.

Take a look at some other tests shared by Martin showcasing the capabilities of this shader:

Stay tuned and follow Martin Chang on X/Twitter for more great animations. Also, join our 80 Level Talent platform and our new Discord server, follow us on InstagramTwitterLinkedInTelegramTikTok, and Threads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.

This pack can help you get that realism that 3D often lacks with various different finger smudges captured from real surfaces.
