Final Fantasy 16 was released in June as a PlayStation 5 exclusive and showed "extremely strong" sales, with 3 million copies sold in the first week. With Microsoft trying to buy Activision Blizzard and Sony pushing back, the console war is as present as ever. But it seems not all developers in the FF team enjoy it as well.
The Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has recently expressed his wish to have everyone play on the same platform.
"Game platforms... I probably shouldn't say this, but I wish there was only one," Yoshida said, translated by IGN. "It would be better for both the developers and the players."
An interesting take, especially considering Final Fantasy 14, which was directed by Yoshida, also stayed on PlayStation for many years, and the Xbox Series X|S port was just announced in July and won't be launched before 2024.
At the same time, I'm sure many will agree with Yoshida. Not having to worry about choosing one console to play on would be fantastic. And developers won't need to tweak games for a specific platform, which would save them time, effort, and money.
Earlier, reports said Final Fantasy 16 didn't meet Square Enix's expectations. Maybe if it was available for everyone, the company would be happier.
