Square Enix at E3 showed off the gameplay of Final Fantasy VII – one of the most expected games for 2020. Special attention was paid to the new combat system. Let’s have a look at the game trailer!
The game combat actions take place in real time but the game still has active-time battle (ATB) bars which pay homage to the classic version in an unusual way. The bars fill up by successful attacks. Once they are full, they can be used for magic and special attacks.
The special attacks differ based on the character and magic is dependent on what type of materia is being used. The homage here is represented in the tactical mode that can be activated ATB bars are full, taking action to slo-mo and giving you different attack options via the special menu.
Players can switch between the team members with a button press. When the bars are full, you can switch to them and utilize their capacities how you see fit. The battle trailer below shows off Barret and Cloud’s various ways of contributing to a battle:
