Former Assassin's Creed franchise Lead Marc-Alexis Côté sues Ubisoft over alleged constructive dismissal, claiming about $1 million from the company.
Côté left Ubisoft in October 2025 after working on the series for nearly two decades. The developer was offered a leadership position at Ubisoft's new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, but rejected the offer.
A few days ago, the developer published a LinkedIn post, sharing his explanation of the situation. "I did not make that choice," he wrote. He said that the leadership of the Assassin's Creed franchise was transferred by Ubisoft, and that another position he was offered did not carry the same scope, mandate, or continuity with the work he had been entrusted with in recent years.
According to a recent report by Radio Canada, Côté sues Ubisoft for "constructive dismissal." In a statement filed with the Quebec Superior Court, the developer is seeking $1.3 million CAD from Ubisoft, including a two-year salary and $75,000 CAD in moral damages, which stands for about $935,000.
As stated in the report, the developer also wants the court to lift his non-compete clause, which limits his employment opportunities with other companies in the video game industry.
