Former Disco Elysium Devs Announce New "Incendiary" RPG
Red Rooster from Summer Eternal, a studio formed by ex-ZA/UM developers, is a physics-driven RPG created in the magical realism genre.
Former developers from ZA/UM, a studio behind Disco Elysium, have revealed their upcoming project – an "incendiary RPG" titled Red Rooster.
The game is being developed by Summer Eternal, one of the three studios established in 2024 by former ZA/UM developers, previously described as a "bold new art collective aiming to create revolutionary games."
Red Rooster is described as an "incendiary, physics-driven RPG combining the best of cerebral, worldbuilding-rich RPGs with the genetics of physics-driven immersive sims." You play as Redrick Roost, a white-collar inmate who is suddenly cast as an arson investigator. With his partner, an opiate-dependent mathematician, they investigate a mysterious string of arson that seemingly connected to his brother, the city's fire chief.

The story belongs to the genre of magical realism and is set in a fictional world inspired by a fusion of the 1980's Yugoslavian Riviera and the Eastern Bloc, with influences ranging from Ottoman culture to Scandinavian social democracies and the colonial Dutch Empire.
Powered by Unreal Engine, Red Rooster is a physics-powered sandbox full of objects you can individually move and manipulate. With the game, the developers try to push the RPG genre by reflecting the protagonist's rich inner world in a dynamic, reactive, and consequential environment.
