Ghost of Yotei's Alleged 2 Million Sales Raised Some Eyebrows Online

So far, neither Sucker Punch nor PlayStation has shared any official updates on how successful the new game actually is.

With Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei being one of, if not the most significant Sony Interactive Entertainment releases of 2025, it comes as no surprise that all eyes are now on it, with both fans and haters scrambling to find at least something to praise or criticize about the title.

Recently, several reports appeared online, apparently providing this "something" by claiming that the new installment in the Ghost series has sold 2 million copies in just four days – a mind-blowing figure, especially considering it's only available on PS5 right now.

However, while some were quick to start celebrating, closer scrutiny revealed that the alleged 2 million figure originated from highly dubious sources, which some have succinctly summarized as "trust me, bro."

For context, one of the first reports was posted over the weekend by game reviewer Detective Seeds, who tweeted that "it sounds like Ghost of Yotei 'has' or is 'close' to passing 2 million in units sold," adding that the official update would arrive on Monday.

While the official update never came, what did was another tweet from Daniel Camilo, who shared that an alleged Director of Sales Operations for PlayStation China had also celebrated the sales milestone on WeChat Moments, attaching a screenshot and a poster you can see above.

With the message from the purported director containing the poster in question, all eyes were now on the image, and it didn't take long for the community to notice that it had "fake" written all over it.

Upon closer inspection, the small text at the bottom of the image was found to contain a joke instead of the usual legal information you expect to find there, along with the name of the image's author, one Jharila FF, a content creator not affiliated with PlayStation. It was also discovered that the image used for the poster is an unofficial fan art by Digital Artist Louis Iske, who likewise has no connection to Ghost of Yotei's development or publishing teams and is most likely unaware that his artwork is being used to spread confusion online.

Additionally, some have questioned whether the post was actually shared by the Director of Sales Operations at PlayStation China, pointing out that Daniel blurred the director's name even though it is easily found with a quick Google search and isn't considered confidential information.

At the moment, neither Sucker Punch nor PlayStation has shared any official updates on how Ghost of Yotei is performing in terms of sales. Maybe it actually did sell 2 million copies in four days, maybe it didn't – what's important is that until the official numbers arrive, everything should be taken with a massive pinch of salt, and every "announcement" scrutinized, whether it comes from those who liked the game or those who didn't.
